Leo W. and Alberta V. Thomas Utz Scholarship – Math
Offered by Daughters of the American Revolution
About this scholarship
The Leo W. and Alberta V. Thomas Utz Scholarship – Math supports undergraduate or graduate students pursuing degrees in mathematics. The scholarship pays $4,000 per year for up to four consecutive years, producing a maximum potential value of $16,000 rather than a one-time $16,000 payment. Initial and renewed eligibility require at least a 3.25 GPA on a 4.0 scale or the equivalent used by the student’s institution. To keep a renewal, the recipient must submit an official transcript to DAR’s Office of the Reporter General by July 10 each year; failure to provide it results in forfeiture. National DAR scholarship rules require U.S. citizenship and attendance or intended attendance at an accredited college or university in the United States. Applicants use DAR AcademicWorks during the annual November 1 through January 31 window, and the next deadline is January 31, 2027 at 11:59 p.m. Hawaii Time. The common application requires undergraduate and graduate transcripts appropriate to the student’s level, proof of citizenship, a career-objectives statement, a one-page list of activities and scholastic achievements, and two to four recent recommendations. Graduate applicants should include undergraduate as well as graduate records. Awards are paid to the educational institution and may be used only for institutionally approved education expenses.
