Latvian State Scholarships for Studies are government scholarships administered by the State Education Development Agency for international students studying at Latvian higher education institutions. The official VIAA studies page states that the 2026 open call ran from February 1 to April 1, 2026 and that applicants register in the online system, create a profile, complete the application form, and upload required documents. The scholarship is partial funding because VIAA notes that English-taught programs in Latvia are fee-based and that the state scholarship amount is not high enough to cover all expenses in Latvia; students may use it toward tuition, accommodation, or meals. Bachelor's and first-level professional higher education applicants must have completed at least one academic year by the time of application. Master's study can generally be funded for one academic year, with a limited two-year possibility for Latvian philology, literature, culture, or history master's programs. Students who want support for another year must reapply.
