About this scholarship

The L'Oréal USA For Women in Science (FWIS) Fellowship program, launched in 2003 as the U.S. arm of the global L'Oréal-UNESCO For Women in Science partnership, recognises and supports exceptional women postdoctoral scientists in the United States. Each year the program awards five fellowships of $60,000 each to outstanding female postdoctoral researchers to advance their scientific work and careers and to help close the gender gap in STEM; globally, the broader For Women in Science program has supported more than 3,300 women scientists across over 118 countries. The U.S. fellowship is specifically for women at the postdoctoral stage (it is not for undergraduate or master's students), and selection emphasises both scientific excellence and a commitment to serving as a role model for younger generations of women in science. Because application logistics and exact eligibility (such as citizenship/visa status and field scope) are set each cycle and can change, applicants should apply through, and confirm the current criteria and deadline on, the official "For Women in Science" program pages on the L'Oréal USA website.

Eligibility

  • Be a woman at the postdoctoral stage of a scientific research career
  • Be conducting research at a US institution in an eligible STEM field
  • Demonstrate scientific excellence and potential as a role model for women in science
  • Confirm citizenship/visa and field eligibility on the current FWIS guidelines
  • Apply through the official L'Oréal USA For Women in Science program by its deadline

This opens the official program page — look for the “Apply” button there. Always verify amounts and deadlines on the official site; they change each cycle.
