KU Excellence Scholarship
Offered by University of Kansas
About this scholarship
The KU Excellence Scholarship is the highest listed automatic freshman merit award for out-of-state and international first-year students at the University of Kansas. KU publishes a GPA-only merit table for admitted freshmen, with the KU Excellence tier requiring a 3.95 or higher GPA on a 4.0 scale and providing $64,000 across four years, paid as $16,000 per year. Students do not complete a separate scholarship application: one KU admission application puts a student in consideration for both admission and merit scholarships, provided the complete application and transcript are submitted by the December 1 freshman scholarship deadline. KU states that it will use the weighted or unweighted GPA, whichever benefits the student most, after the sixth high school semester, and will convert other grading scales to a 4.0 format. The award is partial funding because it does not cover full cost of attendance, housing, meals, insurance, travel, or personal expenses. Renewal requires maintaining a 3.0 KU GPA and full-time enrollment, and the scholarship is available for a first bachelor's degree or eight continuous semesters, whichever comes first.
