Kentucky Osteopathic Medicine Scholarship

Offered by Kentucky Higher Education Assistance Authority

About this scholarship

The Kentucky Higher Education Assistance Authority administers the Osteopathic Medicine Scholarship for Kentucky residents studying at the Kentucky College of Osteopathic Medicine at the University of Pikeville. Instead of publishing a flat award, KHEAA calculates the scholarship as the difference between the average in-state tuition charged by Kentucky medical schools and the tuition charged by Kentucky College of Osteopathic Medicine. This structure is intended to reduce the tuition disadvantage for Kentucky students pursuing the Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree. The award carries a service obligation: a recipient must practice in Kentucky in a qualifying field for one year for every year of scholarship support received. A student who does not complete the osteopathic medicine program or the required Kentucky service must repay the scholarship with interest. Applicants must be U.S. citizens and Kentucky residents and must be accepted to or enrolled at Kentucky College of Osteopathic Medicine. There is no general online KHEAA application or universal annual deadline. The official application instruction is to contact the medical school’s Office of Financial Aid, currently identified by KHEAA as Teresa Jones at 606-218-5407, for the school-administered process and current timeline. Candidates should review the service commitment carefully before accepting because the award functions as a conversion scholarship tied to post-graduation practice.
