Katie Cannon Scholarship

Offered by Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.)

About this scholarship

The Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) offers the Katie Cannon Scholarship in honor of the Rev. Dr. Katie Geneva Cannon, a pioneering Presbyterian theologian and ethicist. The current PC(USA) funding directory lists awards of up to $3,000 to help Presbyterian women of color—including clergywomen and college women—take part in leadership development, spiritual growth, study, and mission opportunities connected with the church. This is not limited to ordinary college tuition: applicants request support for a specific event or educational opportunity and document its registration or tuition cost. The official application asks about PC(USA) roles, home church, presbytery, and synod; the proposed event and dates; expected learning; the full cost; and contributions from the applicant, church, presbytery, synod, or other organizations. Applicants also attach written responses explaining why they want to participate, why funding is needed, and what matching support is available, along with evidence of the event’s tuition or registration fee. PC(USA) publishes a June 1 deadline, while the application instructs candidates to submit eight to ten weeks before the event or study opportunity. Funding is one-time and not guaranteed for future activities. Awardees must later provide a detailed written report about what they learned and experienced.
