Karis S. (Powell) Woodward, RN, Nursing Scholarship
Offered by Blanchard Valley Health Foundation
About this scholarship
The Blanchard Valley Health Foundation administers the Karis S. (Powell) Woodward, RN, Nursing Scholarship for community members progressing through an accredited bachelor of nursing program. The award provides up to $1,000 annually and may be renewed, but recipients must submit a new application each year. Applicants must be entering at least the sophomore year, already accepted into the nursing program, and taking academic-credit coursework that counts toward the nursing degree. They also need a permanent address within the service area of Blanchard Valley Health System and a cumulative GPA of at least 3.00. The Foundation includes good moral character among its selection requirements and gives preference to applicants who demonstrate financial need. Community applicants who are not BVHS employees use the Foundation’s online common scholarship application, select the Karis Woodward fund, and upload the requested materials. The application instructions tell students to prepare an electronic cover letter and, when applicable, recommendation letters, transcripts, and a nursing-school acceptance letter. Applications are due no later than April 1, and the fund states that applicants receive written decisions by May 31. The official current maximum is $1,000 per year, correcting the higher amount projected by the discovery directory.
