John P. Healy Memorial Scholarship

Offered by Delaware Solid Waste Authority

About this scholarship

The John P. Healy Memorial Scholarship is a renewable Delaware Solid Waste Authority award for students beginning full-time study in engineering, environmental studies, environmental education, sustainability, environmental science, or another closely related environmental field. One recipient receives $2,500 annually. The award can continue for four years—up to $10,000 total—if the student maintains a 3.0 GPA, remains in an eligible major at an accredited college or university, and completes DSWA’s renewal form. Applicants must be Delaware residents and must be either seniors at a Delaware high school, Delaware homeschool seniors, or U.S. armed-services veterans. Applications are accepted year-round and must be submitted through the official DSWA portal with all supporting material by 11:59 p.m. on April 30 each year, making April 30, 2027 the next deadline. The application requires an official transcript and an essay of no more than 500 words explaining what influenced the applicant to pursue engineering or environmental studies and how the applicant expects to use the degree. DSWA reviews the complete submission and looks for a passionate interest in engineering or environmental work. The selected applicant is notified by July 1.
