Jazz at the Ballroom Scholarship Awards
Offered by Jazz at the Ballroom
About this scholarship
Jazz at the Ballroom will select three young California jazz instrumentalists for its 2026 scholarship awards. Each winner receives $500 for further jazz study and opportunities to perform at two paid Jazz at the Ballroom events during the following calendar year; the sponsor values the combined award at $1,000. Applicants must be ages 14–18, currently enrolled in a California high-school program, and legal residents of the United States or an official U.S. territory. A minor’s submission requires approval from a parent or legal guardian. The packet includes the official form, a paragraph describing the student’s jazz background, favorite artists and musical influences, future music goals, planned jazz study, and intended use of the award. Applicants also submit a performance recording with a brief spoken introduction naming the student, selection, and composer. A trio or ensemble may provide accompaniment, but the complete submission may not exceed 15 minutes. Professional production is unnecessary. The panel evaluates musicality, melodic development and delivery, harmonic understanding, rhythm, technique, improvisation, creativity, and swing feel; grades and financial need are not selection factors. There is no fee. The direct PDF form and supporting materials must arrive by December 18, 2026.
