James Hunter Anthony and Gerald E. Blackshear Endowment Scholarship
Offered by University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign
About this scholarship
The University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign awards the James Hunter Anthony and Gerald E. Blackshear Endowment Scholarship to incoming first-year students who graduated from an Illinois high school. The award equals full tuition and fees for one academic year and may be renewed for as many as four years when the recipient maintains at least a 3.0 GPA and continuous full-time enrollment. The university lists the number of awards as variable. There is no separate scholarship application: Illinois reviews the first-year admission application for this and other merit scholarships. Applicants therefore use the university’s official first-year application path, submit the Common App, and then complete the self-reported academic record through the link Illinois sends after submission. The admission file also includes the required Illinois short essays, the Common App essay, an application fee or approved fee waiver, and any additional materials required by a talent-based major. Test scores are optional. The fall application opens September 1; the published early-action deadline is November 1, with materials due November 7, and the regular application deadline is January 5, with materials due January 11. Scholarship updates are released by April 1. Students should apply by the admission deadline because a third-party scholarship form is neither required nor valid.
