About this scholarship

The University of New Mexico International Amigo Scholarship is UNM's most prestigious undergraduate scholarship for international students. The official international undergraduate scholarship page states that the Amigo Scholarship grants international students who hold non-immigrant visas the resident, in-state tuition rate. For 2026-2027, UNM lists the estimated scholarship value at $23,148 per year by reducing tuition from the nonresident rate to the resident rate; fees are not included. The award is partial funding because students must still pay resident-rate tuition and fees plus room and board, books, transportation, miscellaneous expenses, health insurance, and other costs. All undergraduate applicants are automatically considered for UNM's international scholarships, so no additional scholarship paperwork is required. Students are automatically considered for the highest-value scholarship they are eligible for, and the awards cannot be stacked with each other or combined with another UNM scholarship. The Amigo Scholarship is based on academic credentials, with eligibility paths for first-year students and transfer students. Recipients must meet UNM renewal requirements each semester to keep the award.
