IEEE Life Members History Fellowship

Offered by IEEE Life Members Committee and IEEE History Committee

About this scholarship

The IEEE Life Members History Fellowship supports one year of full-time graduate study or up to one year of postdoctoral research in the history of electrical science, computing, and related technologies. The selected fellow receives a $25,000 stipend and a research budget of up to $3,000. Graduate work must take place at a college or university of recognized standing. Postdoctoral applicants must have received their Ph.D. within the previous four years. Projects may address any historical area within IEEE's fields, including engineering, computer science, information technology, physical science, biological and medical science, mathematics, technical communication, education, management, or law and policy; applicants proposing a technical subject should demonstrate the skills needed to investigate it. Selection emphasizes the candidate's potential to conduct original historical research and contribute to the field. A complete English-language package includes the official form, a detailed research proposal of approximately 10-15 double-spaced pages, graduate transcripts, and three confidential recommendation letters. Materials are emailed to the IEEE History Center following the file-naming and size instructions on the official application page. The deadline is February 1 each year, making February 1, 2027 the next verified submission date.
