Honjo International Scholarship Foundation (Japan)
Offered by Honjo International Scholarship Foundation
About this scholarship
The Honjo International Scholarship Foundation supports talented foreign students pursuing graduate degrees at Japanese universities, helping them concentrate on their research without financial worry. The scholarship provides a generous monthly stipend — ¥230,000 for one- to two-year degrees, ¥210,000 for three-year degrees, and ¥180,000 for programmes longer than three years — paid throughout the minimum period required to acquire the degree. As a living stipend rather than a tuition waiver, it is classed here as partial, but the monthly amount is among the most generous available in Japan. The scholarship is open to foreign students of all nationalities and all research fields who study or plan to study at a Japanese graduate school for a master's or doctoral degree, and a notable feature is that applicants may apply directly to the Foundation without pre-selection by their university, and can even apply from abroad if they have been accepted to a Japanese graduate school. Applications are made through the Foundation's online application system, where candidates complete the form, upload the required documents, and submit a two-minute video in which they talk about their research.
