About this scholarship

Heidelberg University’s United Church of Christ Grant provides up to $1,000 per year to an undergraduate who is a member of the United Church of Christ. The institutional grant can renew for four years, producing a possible four-year total of $4,000; the $4,000 shown in some scholarship directories is therefore not a one-year payment. Heidelberg requires a recommendation from the applicant’s minister to document the church relationship. There is no separate public scholarship contest or grant form. A prospective student begins with the university’s live undergraduate admission application and completes the normal financial-aid process so Heidelberg can include the grant in the student’s aid package. Applicants should arrange the ministerial recommendation early enough for the university to evaluate it with their other admission and aid materials. Heidelberg limits total university gift assistance to current tuition, so the final grant can interact with other institutional scholarships and grants. Continued financial aid also depends on satisfactory academic progress. Heidelberg defines that standard as completing at least 67 percent of attempted hours during each academic year and reaching at least a 2.0 cumulative GPA by the end of the sophomore year. Students should use the official aid offer to confirm their annual amount and renewal terms rather than treating the four-year maximum as guaranteed.

Eligibility

• Apply for and receive undergraduate admission to Heidelberg University in Tiffin, Ohio
• Be a member of the United Church of Christ
• Provide Heidelberg with a recommendation from the applicant’s minister
• Complete Heidelberg’s normal financial-aid process so the grant can be included in the aid package
• Remain within the rule that total Heidelberg gift assistance cannot exceed current tuition
• Maintain satisfactory academic progress for renewal
