About this scholarship

GREAT Scholarships are jointly funded by the UK government's GREAT Britain Campaign, the British Council, and participating UK higher-education institutions to support international students from a selected group of countries to study a one-year postgraduate taught master's in the UK. Each scholarship is worth a minimum of £10,000 toward tuition fees, across a wide range of subjects. The programme targets prospective students from a set of around 18 eligible countries — including Bangladesh, China, Egypt, Ghana, India, Indonesia, Kenya, Malaysia, Mexico, Nigeria, Pakistan, Thailand, Türkiye, and Vietnam — and the exact participating universities, eligible courses, and number of scholarships change each year. There is no central application: on each country's dedicated page on the British Council Study UK website you can find the list of universities offering GREAT Scholarships to students from your country, the courses covered, and each university's own application process and deadline. Because the scholarships are administered by the individual universities, deadlines vary (one university's 2026 deadline, for example, was 31 May 2026), so applicants should apply directly to the participating university and check its specific date.

Eligibility

  • Be a citizen/resident of one of the eligible countries for that year
  • Apply for an eligible one-year postgraduate taught master's at a participating UK university
  • Apply directly to the participating university by its own deadline
  • Meet the course's academic and English-language entry requirements

This opens the official program page — look for the “Apply” button there. Always verify amounts and deadlines on the official site; they change each cycle.
