Google PhD Fellowship
Offered by Google Research
About this scholarship
The Google PhD Fellowship recognises outstanding graduate students doing exceptional research in computer science and adjacent fields, supporting them as they pursue a full-time PhD anywhere in the world. The award provides about US$10,000 per year for up to three years (or until graduation, whichever comes first) toward a stipend and research-related activities including travel, with the exact terms varying by region. How you apply depends on where you are: in India, Latin America, and Southeast Asia students may apply directly during the application period, while in Africa, Australia, Canada, East Asia, Europe, New Zealand, and the United States students cannot apply directly and must be nominated by an eligible university (which can nominate a limited number — for example up to four in the US/Canada). Eligibility also varies regionally on how far into the PhD you can be — incoming or early-stage students in some regions, students who have completed graduate coursework in others — and recipients must remain enrolled full-time. Applications, submitted via the university, require a department cover sheet, the advisor's short CV, two to three recommendation letters, and transcripts. The host institution must be an accredited research university awarding PhDs in computer science or an adjacent field.
Eligibility
- Be a full-time PhD student (or incoming, region-dependent) in computer science or an adjacent field
- Be at the eligible PhD stage for your region
- Apply directly (India, Latin America, SE Asia) or be nominated by your university (other regions)
- Provide recommendation letters, transcripts, and the required department materials
- Remain enrolled full-time for the duration of the fellowship
