GFWC Massachusetts Art Scholarship for Undergraduate Study

Offered by General Federation of Women’s Clubs of Massachusetts

About this scholarship

The GFWC Massachusetts Art Scholarship for Undergraduate Study supports Massachusetts residents entering or continuing an undergraduate art program. The official 2027 listing replaces the older “Pennies for Art” directory title and offers awards starting at $500 for traditional or digital art. Applicants complete the current PDF with their contact information, schools attended, college applications and acceptances, anticipated graduation date, and major. They also write a personal statement of no more than 500 words explaining their professional goals and how those goals relate to an art program, and they must state the essay’s word count. A reference from a high-school teacher, academic adviser, or college professor must appear on original school letterhead. Portfolio preparation depends on the medium. Traditional applicants provide three different two-dimensional works in three different media, matted rather than framed and no larger than 12 by 18 inches overall, with identifying information on each piece and a postage-paid return envelope. Digital applicants email photographed work as JPEG files within the form’s size specifications, using one image for two-dimensional work and up to two images for three-dimensional work. Every applicant also includes Massachusetts identification and an official transcript. The application warns that incomplete or noncompliant submissions are disqualified, so students should follow the current 2027 PDF rather than an older third-party summary and allow time for physical portfolio delivery when applicable.
