Gertrude E. Hasbrouck Memorial Scholarship

Offered by Hasbrouck Family Association and Historic Huguenot Street

About this scholarship

The Gertrude E. Hasbrouck Memorial Scholarship provides four $5,000 awards to students with documented descent from the New Paltz Huguenot community. Historic Huguenot Street and the Hasbrouck Family Association administer the competition, and awards from the 2026 application will be applied to the spring 2027 semester. Unlike the other scholarships in this shared application, the Gertrude award does not restrict applicants to a particular major; ancestry is the defining program-specific requirement. Applicants submit a separate completed application form for each Historic Huguenot Street award they seek. The supporting package must include an official college or university transcript, two letters of recommendation, and a statement describing academic and career goals. At least one recommendation must come from a college or university professor. Because this award is ancestry-based, the applicant must also complete the Huguenot Ancestry Form included with the official application packet and document descent from New Paltz Huguenots. Transcripts may arrive directly by email or an approved online service, or in an unopened sealed envelope; recommendations must likewise come directly from the referees when emailed. Complete materials must reach Historic Huguenot Street by August 31, 2026. Decisions are finalized by December 31, with awards announced in January 2027. This is the one HHS scholarship that students may receive more than once.
