Gerald W. & Edith F. Wallace Scholarship

Offered by North Dakota Community Foundation

About this scholarship

The Gerald W. & Edith F. Wallace Scholarship assists students with physical disabilities who come from North Dakota farm families. Gerald Wallace created the fund in 1993 after the death of his wife, Edith. The couple had become friends with a highly capable Bowbells resident whose wheelchair use and limited opportunity had prevented further education, and they wanted future North Dakota students facing physical barriers to have greater access. The North Dakota Community Foundation gives first priority to applicants from Burke County, but the official criterion is broader than that preference: eligible applicants must have a physical disability and be from a North Dakota farm family. The award does not have a fixed advertised value. Instead, the Foundation determines support from the student’s documented need and the resources available in the fund, so applicants should not rely on an amount copied from a commercial directory. The annual application window runs from January 1 through April 1. Students apply in the Foundation’s secure scholarship portal, where they create an account, complete the requested financial and educational information, and submit any documents assigned to this opportunity. Because the sponsor does not specify a degree level, major, GPA threshold, or enrollment load on the public fund page, this record does not invent those restrictions.
