Georgia Tuition Equalization Grant Program

Offered by Georgia Student Finance Commission

About this scholarship

The Georgia Tuition Equalization Grant Program, commonly called GTEG, provides non-need-based state aid to Georgia residents earning undergraduate degrees at eligible private colleges and universities in Georgia. The current official award is $550 per semester or $367 per quarter, payable for as many as three semesters or four quarters in one award year. This creates a typical annual maximum of $1,650 for a semester student or $1,468 for a quarter student, although the Georgia Legislature budgets the program annually and the rate may change during an award year. Applicants must be legal Georgia residents, meet U.S. citizenship, national, or eligible permanent-resident rules, enroll full time in an undergraduate degree program at a participating private institution, and maintain satisfactory academic progress. They must also comply with Selective Service and the Georgia Drug-Free Postsecondary Education Act and cannot be in default or owe a refund on student financial aid. Students apply using either the Free Application for Federal Student Aid or the online Georgia Student Finance Application; FAFSA must be renewed annually. Each participating institution sets its own application deadline for every term, making the college financial-aid office the authoritative source for timing. GTEG eligibility ends after 127 semester or 190 quarter hours of payments.
