George and Mary Josephine Hamman Foundation Scholarship

Offered by George and Mary Josephine Hamman Foundation

About this scholarship

The George and Mary Josephine Hamman Foundation awards 70 scholarships each spring to Houston-area high school seniors combining strong academics with financial need. Each award provides $25,000, distributed across four years or until the recipient graduates earlier, for undergraduate study in any major at a four-year U.S. college or university. Applicants must attend school or be homeschooled in Brazoria, Chambers, Fort Bend, Galveston, Harris, Liberty, Montgomery, or Waller County and must be U.S. citizens; permanent-resident status alone does not qualify. The Foundation also requires a minimum composite score of 1000 on the same-date SAT math and reading/writing sections or a minimum ACT composite of 21 from one test date. Applications may be started after September 15 of the student’s senior year and must be received by 4:00 p.m. on March 16; when March 16 falls on a weekend, the preceding Friday becomes the deadline. Applicants complete the online form and upload every required attachment, including the Foundation’s separate Financial Qualification Statement rather than substituting a FAFSA report. A group of finalists is invited to interview. Students who have not received an interview invitation by March 15 may assume they were not selected as finalists. Careful compliance matters because incomplete or incorrectly prepared applications may not be considered.
