Frederick R. Layton Art Scholarship
Offered by Mount Mary University
About this scholarship
Mount Mary University’s Frederick R. Layton Art Scholarship awards up to $3,000 to multiple current students whose academic progress and original creative work show strong artistic promise. Eligible applicants must be full-time undergraduates with a declared major in an approved arts or design area, including art, art education, art therapy, fashion design, fashion merchandise management, graphic design, interior design, or interior merchandising. A student must have completed at least one college-level art course at Mount Mary or transferred eligible art credit, maintain both a core and major GPA of at least 3.0, and expect to have only 12 to 24 credits remaining before graduation. The application uses a two-stage process. Students first submit the official Layton eligibility form by April 1. After eligibility is confirmed, they complete the online jury submission by May 1 with images of at least six original works. The portfolio must demonstrate breadth through at least three media types and three different subjects; applicants may submit no more than ten images, including detail views or sketchbook pages. Eligible media include drawing, design, painting, photography, ceramics, sculpture, fiber arts, and mixed media. Faculty in the School of Arts and Design conduct the jury review and send award recommendations to the Office of Financial Aid. The official sponsor page states up to $3,000 per scholarship, correcting the directory’s unsupported $9,000 value.
