Fredda Witherspoon National Scholastic Scholarship
Offered by Iota Phi Lambda Sorority, Inc.
About this scholarship
Iota Phi Lambda Sorority’s Fredda Witherspoon National Scholastic Scholarship recognizes female graduating high school seniors who plan to earn a degree in a business-related field. The national program awards $8,000 to one top recipient and $3,000 to one recipient from each of four remaining regions. Selection considers academic performance, career goals, leadership, financial need, community involvement, and the quality and completeness of the submitted packet. This is not a direct national self-application: every candidate must work through an Iota Phi Lambda local chapter, and each chapter may sponsor only one applicant for national consideration. Applicants must be graduating female high school seniors, select an accredited college or university, and make a business-related field their first occupational choice. The current national materials call for a signed student application and consent documents, an autobiographical essay describing career aspirations and leadership, an official transcript, recommendation letters, income documentation with sensitive identifiers redacted, and supporting evidence of activities and achievements. Chapters may set an earlier internal deadline so they have time to select and prepare their nominee; the national deadline is January 31 annually. The sponsor’s current public page is the correct starting point for finding the chapter-sponsored route. This listing uses the official $8,000 and $3,000 values rather than the directory’s inaccurate $10,000 and $5,000 figures.
