Frans Hagen Scholarship

Offered by Restaurant Association Metropolitan Washington Education Foundation (Educated Eats)

About this scholarship

The Frans Hagen Scholarship is offered through Educated Eats, the education foundation of the Restaurant Association Metropolitan Washington, to develop the Washington-area restaurant and foodservice workforce. Awards of up to $5,000 support two applicant paths. Student applicants may pursue postsecondary study in culinary arts or hospitality management. Industry professionals may use an award for culinary or hospitality classes, skills workshops, professional development, or ServSuccess training and certifications. The official program criteria require U.S. citizenship or permanent residency and residence in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area. A student must be accepted into a full-time culinary- or hospitality-related postsecondary program that lasts at least four semesters. Applicants also need either recent participation in high-school culinary coursework or at least 400 hours of documented restaurant or foodservice employment or internship experience. Academic applicants must have at least a 2.75 GPA on a 4.0 scale or rank in the top third of their class. Proof of qualifying work experience comes from an employer or mentor. Scholarship funds are paid to the approved school or training provider rather than directly to the recipient. The sponsor’s application page currently provides separate Fall 2026 forms for students and working industry professionals, but it does not publish a closing date, so applicants should submit promptly or confirm timing with Educated Eats.
