Foundation for Jewish Philanthropies Academic Scholarships
Offered by Foundation for Jewish Philanthropies
About this scholarship
The Foundation for Jewish Philanthropies provides need-based academic assistance to eligible Jewish students connected to Erie or Niagara County in Western New York. A single annual application places a student under consideration for the Foundation’s academic scholarships and its interest-free Isaac Hoenig loan program. Eligible applicants generally attended a public or private high school in Erie or Niagara County; have a family whose permanent residence is in one of those counties while attending an out-of-town high school focused on Jewish studies; or are new Americans living in Erie or Niagara County. Undergraduate and graduate degree programs may be located anywhere in the United States or overseas, including Israel, and qualifying certificate programs must lead to a recognized completion credential. Every applicant must document financial need. The package includes a college financial-aid award letter or cost-of-attendance financing plan, income verification such as tax or wage documents, and the appropriate high-school, undergraduate, or graduate transcripts. Jewish Family Services schedules a confidential interview after receiving a complete file. Applications open April 1 and all materials are due June 1 for the academic year beginning that September; decisions are issued by August 15. Award values vary by need and the funds for which each student qualifies, so the listing does not promise a fixed amount.
