FMA Doug Damerst Scholarship

Offered by Florida Magazine Association

About this scholarship

The Florida Magazine Association presents the $1,000 Doug Damerst Scholarship to an exceptional journalism or communications student at a four-year college in Florida. Established in memory of an award-winning editor and communications professional, the program evaluates the applicant’s demonstrated reporting or writing work and commitment to the field. Students submit a portfolio containing three published or unpublished articles that showcase their journalism, along with an official transcript from the university they attend, a résumé, one recommendation letter, and an introductory letter explaining their passion for journalism. The official online application provides separate upload fields for the three portfolio pieces and each supporting document. Applicants may instead email the complete requested package to the Association using the address on the program page. The sponsor does not currently state a GPA cutoff, citizenship rule, class year, financial-need requirement, or restriction to a particular journalism specialty, so none is added here. The live official form is available, but the Association lists the submission deadline as TBA. Applicants should prepare their portfolio now, contact FMA for the current closing date before submission, and avoid relying on third-party listings that characterize the award as having no deadline.
