Florida State University Vires Scholarship

Offered by Florida State University

About this scholarship

Florida State University’s Vires Scholarship provides $16,000 to selected Florida residents entering as first-year undergraduates. “Vires,” meaning strength, is one of the three torches represented on the university seal. The award recognizes applicants who demonstrate academic excellence in a rigorous high school curriculum. No separate scholarship form is required: FSU automatically considers eligible first-year admission applicants based on their academic record and other information in the admission file. The total is divided across eight semesters, with $2,000 applied at the beginning of each fall and spring term. The Vires Scholarship may be awarded in addition to other admission-based merit assistance and to Florida Bright Futures for students who qualify. Scholarship funding is limited, and FSU encourages prospective students to apply for admission early even though it does not list a separate Vires closing date. Recipients must satisfy the university’s continuing scholarship requirements throughout the award period. Applicants should submit the official FSU first-year application, meet all admission deadlines for their intended entry term, and consult the scholarship renewal page before accepting the award so they understand enrollment, academic-progress, and other continuing conditions.
