Ferriss Horticulture Scholarship

Offered by American Floral Endowment

About this scholarship

The American Floral Endowment awards the Ferriss Horticulture Scholarship annually to an undergraduate entering the junior or senior year in horticulture or plant sciences. The recipient must intend to build a career involving herbaceous ornamental plants or the floriculture industry. Preference goes to students with a demonstrated interest in commercial greenhouse production of non-edible, non-medicinal ornamental crops; research on the production, physiology, or breeding of ornamental and floriculture crops; or sales and marketing in those areas. Applicants need a cumulative GPA of at least 2.6. They must also be U.S. or Canadian citizens or residents, or be enrolled at an accredited institution in either country. The Endowment does not publish a fixed amount for this named award; its annual scholarships range from $500 to $5,000 and are issued jointly to the selected student and the college attended in the fall. One online application allows a student to select up to six AFE scholarships. The supporting package includes a résumé, a recent transcript, and exactly two recommendation letters, preferably one from a teacher and one from an employer. Applications reopen in 2027 and are due May 1. The official scholarship page is the current source for the seasonal portal and final instructions.
