Fellowship on Women & Public Policy

Offered by Center for Women in Government & Civil Society at the University at Albany

About this scholarship

The Fellowship on Women & Public Policy is a six-month experiential program run by the Center for Women in Government & Civil Society at the University at Albany’s Rockefeller College. The 2027 application is open on a rolling basis until the available places are filled. Fellows relocate to Albany, New York from January through June and combine graduate study with a 25-hour-per-week public-policy placement in a New York State agency, the Legislature, or a nonprofit organization. The program provides a $15,000 stipend, tuition assistance, and access to health-plan options. Fellows enroll for nine graduate credits, so this is a substantial academic and professional commitment rather than a short internship. Applicants may come from any discipline and are considered regardless of sex, gender, or political affiliation. Graduate students and working professionals must have completed at least 12 graduate credits; working professionals must also bring at least three years of work experience. The official application requests transcripts from every institution attended, a resume covering paid and volunteer experience, five references—two academic and three professional—and two writing samples. Finalists interview with the selection committee. Students should apply early because there is no fixed closing date and review continues only until the 2027 cohort is complete.
