Federated Garden Clubs of Maryland Scholarships

Offered by Federated Garden Clubs of Maryland, Inc.

About this scholarship

The Federated Garden Clubs of Maryland awards one general FGCMD scholarship and two Robert Lewis Baker Memorial Scholarships each year. These one-year grants support Maryland residents who are college juniors, seniors, or master’s students preparing for careers connected to gardening, horticulture, landscape design, environmental concerns, floral design, or related disciplines. Sophomores may apply for funding for their junior year. Applicants must be U.S. citizens or permanent legal residents, attend an accredited U.S. college or university full time, and hold at least a 3.25 cumulative GPA. Eligible majors include agronomy, agriculture education, biology, botany, floriculture, forestry, horticulture, landscape design, planning, wildlife science, plant science, ecology, conservation, land management, and allied subjects. The Baker awards are narrower, requiring ornamental horticulture or landscape architecture. Funds may cover only tuition, course fees, books, and required materials. A complete package includes the application, financial-aid form, transcripts, a one-page applicant letter identifying the requested scholarship, a recent activities and honors list, and two recommendations. Electronic materials go to the scholarship email, followed by the required hard-copy packet to the appropriate chair. The official application procedure sets February 1 as the recurring deadline.
