About this scholarship

The Faculty for the Future Fellowship, created in 2005 by the Schlumberger Foundation (SLB), supports talented women from developing and emerging economies to pursue advanced study in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) at leading institutions around the world, with the goal of building research capacity and increasing the presence of women in STEM back home. The fellowship is generous — covering tuition and a living stipend for PhD or postdoctoral study (with annual caps and renewal subject to progress) — and the programme has now funded more than 1,000 fellows worldwide. It is specifically for women who are citizens of a developing country or emerging economy where women are underrepresented in STEM; applicants who hold a secondary citizenship from a developed country are not eligible, and the fellowship applies only to PhD and postdoctoral candidates (master's students are not eligible). Fellows are expected to return to their home countries after their studies to contribute to economic, social, and technological advancement and to serve as role models who inspire other young women. Applicants need English skills sufficient for an interview, and applications are made through the official Faculty for the Future website during the annual call.

Eligibility

  • Be a woman and a citizen of a developing country or emerging economy
  • Be pursuing a PhD or postdoctoral research in a STEM discipline (not a master's)
  • Not hold a secondary citizenship from a developed country
  • Have English skills sufficient for an interview in English
  • Commit to returning home to advance STEM and mentor other women
