Eugene C. Figg, Jr. Civil Engineering Scholarship

Offered by American Society of Civil Engineers

About this scholarship

The American Society of Civil Engineers may present the Eugene C. Figg, Jr. Civil Engineering Scholarship each year to one undergraduate who is committed to bridge design or construction. The award supports tuition and academic fees in an ABET-accredited or equivalent civil engineering program. Its amount is set annually by ASCE’s Executive Committee from the endowment’s income, so the official rules do not promise the fixed amount shown by some scholarship directories. Applicants must remain undergraduates at the time of application and award and must be ASCE Student Members in good standing. Selection considers the essay, interest in bridges, educational plans, academic performance, development potential, leadership, and financial need. The online application is completed in one session. A single PDF contains the faculty-signed contact form, annual budget, a personal essay of no more than 500 words, and a one-page résumé. At least two signed, letterhead recommendations are submitted separately, including one from faculty, and the institution sends an official transcript. ASCE states a recurring January 15 deadline; as of verification, the submission portal was between cycles, so applicants should use the official program page for opening updates and complete instructions.
