About this scholarship

The France Excellence Eiffel Scholarship Programme was established by the French Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs to help French higher-education institutions attract the most talented international students to their master's and PhD programmes. Eiffel scholars receive a substantial monthly stipend (around €2,100 at master's level from January 2026) together with a package of services: international and domestic transport, health insurance, assistance finding housing, and cultural activities. Because French public-university tuition is low, this stipend-plus-services package effectively funds the study period, though it is structured as an allowance rather than a tuition waiver. A crucial point: students cannot apply directly. Applications are submitted only by the French institution that wishes to host the student, based on the excellence of its candidates — any application sent directly to Campus France by a student is rejected. The call for applications typically opens in October with a Campus France submission deadline in early January. Selection favours academic excellence and the international strategy of the host institution.

Eligibility

  • Be a non-French citizen (international student)
  • Be put forward by a French higher-education institution — direct student applications are rejected
  • Be aged up to 29 for a master's, or up to 35 for a PhD
  • Be applying to enrol in that institution's master's or doctoral programme
  • Not already hold an Eiffel scholarship previously
