Edward Tuinier Memorial Scholarship
Offered by American Floral Endowment
About this scholarship
The Edward Tuinier Memorial Scholarship is an American Floral Endowment award reserved for Michigan State University undergraduates in floriculture. It honors Ed Tuinier, an MSU graduate, greenhouse owner, and supporter of the university’s horticulture program and demonstration gardens. Eligible applicants must be sophomores, juniors, or seniors enrolled in MSU’s floriculture program. The exact amount changes with annual fund performance and selection; AFE’s official 2025 recipient announcement documents a $5,800 Tuinier award, so the listing does not promise the directory’s fixed $5,000. AFE administers this scholarship through its common floriculture and horticulture application. Applicants complete one online profile and may select up to six matching AFE scholarships. The common packet requires a résumé, two recommendation letters—preferably one academic and one employer reference—and a recent transcript, which may be unofficial. All materials must be in English or include an English translation and are due May 1, 2027. AFE generally notifies selected students by July 1 and issues scholarship checks jointly to the recipient and the institution attended in the fall. Students should choose the Edward Tuinier fund in the direct AFE platform and verify that their MSU program and class standing are accurately documented.
