Edward O. Fritts Award

Offered by Broadcast Education Association and the Edward O. Fritts Scholarship Endowment

About this scholarship

The Edward O. Fritts Award is a $1,000 scholarship sponsored by the Edward O. Fritts Scholarship Endowment and administered by the Broadcast Education Association. It supports study in any electronic-media area and is named for the former National Association of Broadcasters chief executive. Applicants must be students who will hold junior, senior, or graduate standing in 2027-2028 at a campus with a BEA institutional-member department. Two-year students who will transfer to an eligible four-year institution can be considered for undergraduate awards. An individual student membership is not required. After creating a BEA profile, the applicant completes one online form that BEA uses to consider the student for every eligible scholarship. Required evidence includes personal and academic information, electronic-media and other experience, a written goals statement, transcripts from all colleges attended, and two reference letters on letterhead. At least one letter must come from a college or university electronic-media professor; the second may come from another professor or an industry professional. The award supports full-time study across the entire academic year, not a one-semester program. Funds can cover eligible tuition, student fees, course purchases through the university bookstore, and campus housing-related charges. The signed, complete application is due by 11:59 p.m. local time on October 16, 2026.
