Edward G. and Helen A. Borgens Secondary Teacher Scholarship
Offered by Daughters of the American Revolution
About this scholarship
The Edward G. and Helen A. Borgens Secondary Teacher Scholarship serves adult college students preparing to teach at the secondary-school level. DAR administers it separately from the elementary-teacher award, so the combined title used by some scholarship directories hides two distinct application matches. The secondary award is a one-time scholarship with a preferred amount of up to $1,500 and is made to one student under the currently published program. Applicants must be at least 25 years old, have at least sophomore standing in college, and maintain a minimum 3.5 GPA. They must attend or plan to attend an accredited college or university and pursue preparation for secondary teaching. Academic merit drives selection. Although funding is not automatically renewed, a recipient may apply again in another annual competition if still eligible. National DAR rules also require U.S. citizenship and attendance or planned attendance at an accredited U.S. institution. The online application opens November 1 and closes January 31 annually; the next deadline is January 31, 2027 at 11:59 p.m. Hawaii Time. Applicants provide proof of citizenship, college transcripts, a career-objectives statement, a concise list of activities and scholastic achievements, and two to four recent recommendations. The application should clearly identify the intended secondary subject and teaching pathway.
