Edward G. and Helen A. Borgens Elementary Teacher Scholarship
Offered by Daughters of the American Revolution
About this scholarship
The Edward G. and Helen A. Borgens Elementary Teacher Scholarship is a national DAR award for an adult college student preparing to teach at the elementary-school level. It is separate from the similarly named secondary-teacher scholarship and should be applied to as its own opportunity. DAR provides one one-time award with a preferred amount of up to $1,500. Applicants must be at least 25 years old, must have reached at least college-sophomore standing, and must hold a minimum 3.5 GPA. They must attend or plan to attend an accredited college or university and be studying specifically for elementary-level teaching. Selection is based on academic merit. The award does not renew automatically, although a prior recipient may reapply in a later year while all requirements are still met. National scholarship applicants must be U.S. citizens studying or planning to study at an accredited institution in the United States. Applications are submitted in DAR AcademicWorks during the recurring November 1–January 31 period, with the next deadline January 31, 2027 at 11:59 p.m. Hawaii Time. The common materials include proof of citizenship, college transcripts, a career statement, activities and achievements, and two to four recent recommendations. Applicants should make their elementary-teaching plan explicit so they are matched to the correct Borgens award.
