Dumitru Golea Goldy-Gemu Scholarship

Offered by Romanian Orthodox Episcopate of America

About this scholarship

The Dumitru Golea Goldy-Gemu Scholarship provides two $1,500 awards through the Romanian Orthodox Episcopate of America to undergraduate students of Romanian descent. The sponsor’s official page is accepting applications and the permanent rules state that the scholarship is offered annually with a May 31 postmark deadline. Applicants must trace Romanian ancestry through at least one parent and be citizens or permanent residents of the United States or Canada. They must attend full time at a government-accredited four-year college, university, or professional-arts school; graduate programs and two-year programs do not qualify. High school applicants submit an acceptance letter and school-administration section, while current undergraduates provide a transcript and returning students provide proof of readmission. Every applicant submits three sealed, non-relative recommendations, a recent posed photograph, and a handwritten 300-word essay explaining how Romanian heritage helps make the applicant a better American or Canadian. The complete paper packet is mailed to the Goldy Scholarship Committee in Grass Lake, Michigan. Separate official PDFs are provided for high school and college applicants. Prior recipients may apply again during undergraduate study, but no student may receive more than four Goldy awards.
