Dr. Jack G. Shaheen Mass Communications Scholarship

Offered by American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee Research Institute

About this scholarship

The American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee Research Institute offers the Dr. Jack G. Shaheen Mass Communications Scholarship to Arab American university students preparing for careers in journalism, television, radio, or film. The 2027 award is $5,000 and serves students who will be juniors, seniors, or graduate students during the September 2027–2028 academic year. Applicants must be United States citizens of Arab heritage and hold at least a 3.5 GPA. This is a mail-based application, and the sponsor’s official scholarship page is the complete application instruction page rather than a separate commercial form. A complete packet includes two signed recommendations from mass-communications professors, printed samples or emailed links to relevant work, and an official academic transcript. Applicants also submit a one-page statement explaining their goals and how Dr. Shaheen’s work on Arab representation has influenced them, explicitly affirm their U.S. citizenship and Arab heritage, and identify their 2027–2028 class level. Students changing institutions must include an acceptance letter and confirmation that they will attend. The packet also needs a permanent address, mobile number, and email address. ADC-RI warns that all seven listed components are mandatory and will reject incomplete or late submissions. Materials must reach the Washington, D.C. address on the official page by April 10, 2027.
