Dr. Aura-Lee A. and James Hobbs Pittenger American History Scholarship
Offered by Daughters of the American Revolution
About this scholarship
The Dr. Aura-Lee A. and James Hobbs Pittenger American History Scholarship helps a graduating high school student build an undergraduate program with substantial study of both American history and American government. The award pays $2,000 per year for as many as four years, for a maximum of $8,000. To remain eligible for renewal, the recipient must maintain at least a 3.25 GPA and complete the required annual transcript review. The academic plan must include a concentrated study totaling at least 24 credit hours in American History and American Government. National DAR rules require U.S. citizenship and attendance at an accredited college or university in the United States; U.S. citizens living abroad may apply through a DAR Units Overseas chapter. Applications use DAR AcademicWorks and are accepted annually from November 1 through January 31, with the next deadline on January 31, 2027 at 11:59 p.m. Hawaii Time. The common application includes proof of citizenship, high-school transcripts and any college transcripts for dual-credit work, a career-objectives statement, activities and honors, and two to four recommendations. Chapter sponsorship is not required for applicants in the United States. Students should describe a concrete history-and-government course plan because the award is intended to promote sustained study of the nation’s history, not simply an undeclared liberal-arts degree.
