Distinguished Raven FAC Memorial Scholarship

Offered by Edgar Allen Poe Literary Society

About this scholarship

The Distinguished Raven FAC Memorial Scholarship provides educational assistance to descendants and legal wards of Lao or Hmong people who served in the Royal Laotian Military or Hmong forces defending the Kingdom of Laos between 1960 and 1975. The Edgar Allen Poe Literary Society, a nonprofit organization of former Raven and Butterfly Forward Air Controllers, administers several awards each year. Amounts vary; the sponsor reports a historical range of $500 to $2,500 and typically about 10 to 12 recipients. Applicants may be high school seniors or graduates and must enroll or actively seek full-time enrollment for the coming academic year in a U.S. bachelor’s, associate, technical, or trade-school program. The complete paper application must be postmarked by February 28, 2027 and mailed to the address printed on the official form. Required attachments include a one- or two-page essay explaining the applicant’s goals and relevant circumstances, a high school transcript, and two one-page recommendations from eligible adults in the community. Reviewers consider academic achievement, goals, character, service, essay quality, and apparent need; academic achievement is not a key factor for trade-school applicants. A recipient cannot win in consecutive years or receive more than two Raven scholarships total.
