Dewar Family Scholarship

Offered by American Floral Endowment

About this scholarship

The Dewar Family Scholarship supports undergraduate juniors and seniors studying environmental horticulture with a clear focus on a career in floriculture. The fund was created by the Dewar family of Dewar Nurseries to encourage emerging professionals to enter floriculture production and business. It is administered through the American Floral Endowment’s common scholarship application, which allows a student to select up to six matching AFE scholarships. AFE states that its undergraduate awards range from $500 to $5,000; the exact Dewar Family award depends on annual selection and available funding. Applications will reopen in 2027 and are due May 1, 2027. Applicants must pursue a career related to floriculture or horticulture, hold at least a 2.0 GPA, and be a U.S. or Canadian citizen or resident, or attend an accredited institution in either country. The common application requires an online form, résumé, two recommendation letters—preferably one academic and one employer recommendation—and a recent transcript, which need not be official. All materials must be complete by May 1. Funds are issued jointly to the recipient and the institution attended in the fall, and selected students are notified by July 1.
