Davis United World College Scholars Program
Offered by Davis UWC Scholars Program (Shelby Davis philanthropy)
About this scholarship
The Davis United World College (UWC) Scholars Program is the largest privately funded international scholarship program in the United States, co-founded in 2000 by philanthropist Shelby Davis and educator Phil Geier. It provides need-based financial aid to graduates of the 18 United World College high schools — students from both the United States and overseas — so they can pursue undergraduate study at one of more than 100 partner colleges and universities across the U.S., from research universities to liberal arts colleges. Davis philanthropy contributes as much as $20,000 of need-based aid per scholar each year, for up to four years, and this is combined with the partner college's own financial aid, so it functions as a partnership rather than a standalone full ride (the total package depends on the college and the student's assessed need). The defining eligibility requirement is having completed the final two years of secondary school at a United World College; scholars then apply for admission to a Davis UWC partner institution, and the Davis funding is arranged through that college rather than via a separate application. The program currently supports over 4,000 students and is built around the UWC mission of advancing peace through education.
