David Barrett Memorial Scholarship
Offered by ASID Foundation
About this scholarship
The David Barrett Memorial Scholarship is the ASID Foundation’s biennial $12,000 award for an outstanding interior-design student who demonstrates sustained interest and skill in classical design and traditional materials. The 2027 competition accepts applications from February 15 through April 15, 2027. Applicants must be enrolled in an undergraduate- or graduate-level interior-design program at an accredited university, and the program must comprise at least three years of interior-design study. Work should show creative and innovative use of classical principles aligned with Greek and Roman design, together with traditional materials such as furniture and fabrics. Projects may come from workplace, civic, residential, hospitality, historic-restoration, or other design contexts. The application requires an eight- to twelve-page design portfolio demonstrating the applicant’s continuing engagement with classical design and traditional materials. Candidates also submit a portfolio statement of no more than 500 words, a personal statement, a transcript or alternate proof of enrollment, one recommendation letter, a biographical statement, and a headshot. Because the scholarship is offered every two years, students should use the dated 2027 official section and submit through the application link that ASID activates for this cycle rather than relying on information from an intervening year.
