DAR Centennial Scholarship
Offered by Daughters of the American Revolution
About this scholarship
The DAR Centennial Scholarship supports graduate students pursuing historic preservation at a college or university in the United States. The Daughters of the American Revolution awards two one-time scholarships of $2,500, funded from proceeds associated with the organization’s Centennial Pin. This is a field-specific graduate award rather than a general history scholarship, so applicants should be able to document a course of graduate study centered on historic preservation. DAR’s national scholarship rules require applicants to be U.S. citizens and to attend or plan to attend an accredited U.S. institution. DAR membership and chapter sponsorship are not required. The AcademicWorks application opens November 1 and closes January 31 every year; the next deadline is January 31, 2027 at 11:59 p.m. Hawaii Time. Graduate applicants should submit their undergraduate and current graduate transcripts, proof of citizenship, a statement of no more than 1,000 words describing career objectives, a one-page record of activities, honors, and scholastic achievement, and two to four recent typed recommendations. Recommendations should address the applicant’s ability, work habits, integrity, character, potential, volunteer activity, and the recommender’s relationship to the applicant. The $2,500 is restricted educational aid sent to the recipient’s institution, where it may be applied only to institutionally permitted educational expenses.
