About this scholarship
The DAR Caroline E. Holt Nursing Scholarship provides three one-time $2,500 awards to students who have financial need and have been accepted into or are currently enrolled in an accredited nursing program. Applicants must upload either a letter confirming acceptance into the nursing program or a transcript that clearly states current nursing-program enrollment. The award is national, but DAR’s common rules require U.S. citizenship and attendance or planned attendance at an accredited college or university in the United States. No DAR membership or chapter sponsor is required. Applications are accepted through the secure AcademicWorks portal each year from November 1 through January 31, making January 31, 2027 at 11:59 p.m. Hawaii Time the next deadline. The common application requires a career-objectives statement, transcripts, proof of citizenship, a brief activities and achievements list, and two to four recent recommendations. This is one of the DAR scholarships that also requires applicants to complete financial-need information in the application; unrelated tax returns, bank statements, and other confidential financial records should not be uploaded. Scholarship funds are restricted educational aid and are sent to the recipient’s school for permitted educational expenses. Students should ensure every document is typed and that no photograph remains visible on any uploaded identification or record.
Eligibility
- Be a United States citizen
- Attend or plan to attend an accredited institution in the United States
- Be accepted into or currently enrolled in an accredited nursing program
- Provide a nursing-program acceptance letter or a transcript showing nursing-program enrollment
- Demonstrate financial need through the required application questions
- Submit transcripts, proof of citizenship, a career statement, activities, and two to four recommendations
- Submit the complete online application by January 31, 2027 at 11:59 p.m. Hawaii Time
