Daniel D. Smothers Memorial Scholarship
Offered by Saginaw Community Foundation
About this scholarship
The Daniel D. Smothers Memorial Scholarship honors a Saginaw student remembered for academic achievement, athletics, music, teaching aspirations, and service to others. The Saginaw Community Foundation makes the award available through its single online application, which can match an applicant with this and other eligible foundation scholarships. The 2027 application opens November 1, 2026 and must be submitted by February 12, 2027. Applicants must be graduating seniors at Saginaw United High School, reside in the City of Saginaw, hold at least a 2.5 cumulative GPA, and plan to pursue an undergraduate degree with full-time enrollment. The scholarship’s published scoring gives the greatest weight to its special essay, followed by financial need, scholastic record, and recommendations. Community service, school and extracurricular activities, and leadership are also evaluated. The foundation’s current application guide requires all applicants to complete a multi-question educational, career, community, and personal-experience essay questionnaire and upload an academic transcript. Applicants should also answer every required common-form question and supply any scholarship-specific attachment requested inside the portal. Award amounts and the number of recipients are not fixed on the scholarship’s official page and should be confirmed through the current application.
