Cosby H. Watson Memorial Scholarship in Nursing

Offered by Saginaw Community Foundation

About this scholarship

The Cosby H. Watson Memorial Scholarship in Nursing supports pre-nursing students from Michigan’s Great Lakes Bay Region who attend Delta College or Saginaw Valley State University. It honors Cosby Watson, an Army Nurse Corps captain during World War II and a longtime Saginaw-area nurse and volunteer whose family established the fund for students committed to caring for others. Applicants may study full time or part time, but must still be in a pre-nursing program and not yet admitted to the institution’s School of Nursing. The minimum GPA is 3.0, and the official fund page does not promise a fixed award amount. Students apply through the Saginaw Community Foundation’s GOapply common application, which can also match them with other Foundation scholarships. The 2027 application opens November 1, 2026 and is due February 12, 2027 under the Foundation’s published second-Friday-in-February schedule. Selection is unusually interview-focused: the interview accounts for 55 percent of this fund’s evaluation. Recommendation letters, overall involvement in work, school, and community activities, and the career goals presented in the essay make up the remaining criteria. Applicants should prepare to explain their commitment to nursing and service as carefully as they prepare their written materials.
