Columbia University Vagelos Scholarship Program
Offered by Columbia University Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons
About this scholarship
The Vagelos Scholarship Program enables Columbia University’s Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons to meet 100 percent of calculated financial need for eligible MD students with scholarships rather than educational loans. Medical students who submit a complete financial-aid application are considered automatically; there is no separate merit competition or Vagelos essay. Columbia calculates need by subtracting assessed student, spouse, and parent resources from the medical school cost-of-attendance budget, which includes tuition, fees, approved study materials, room and board, and other standard expenses. For need-based grants and scholarships, incoming students complete the Aid Type Request Form in NetPartner, the FAFSA when eligible, the student/spouse and parent sections of the CSS Profile, the MD Activity Questionnaire, and the tax and supporting documents requested through the school’s process. Columbia’s FAFSA code is 002707 and the MD CSS Profile code is 2148. International students may also seek school need-based funds through the CSS Profile and required financial documentation. Scholarship eligibility and the amount can change with family circumstances, so recipients must reapply each year, maintain satisfactory academic progress, and promptly disclose changes or outside aid. Applicants should follow the priority date shown in their NetPartner account and current MD financial-aid instructions.
