Colorado State University Native American Legacy Award

Offered by Colorado State University

About this scholarship

Colorado State University’s Native American Legacy Award makes the main-campus tuition rate more affordable for qualifying Native American students who live outside Colorado. Rather than a flat $500 scholarship, the current benefit reduces nonresident tuition to Colorado resident base tuition; fees and differential tuition are not included, and the value changes with CSU’s annual rates. One pathway is available to an enrolled citizen of a federally or state-recognized tribe, a student whose biological parent is an enrolled citizen, or a student who documents at least one-half combined Native American ancestry from recognized tribes. A second pathway gives Colorado residency status to enrolled citizens of federally recognized tribes with historical ties to Colorado under the state’s American Indian Tribes In-State Tuition Act, which can also open access to additional state and CSU aid. Students first submit a complete application for CSU admission and then send official tribal citizenship or ancestry documentation to the Office of Admissions no later than 15 business days before the academic term begins. The program is for degree-seeking students on CSU’s main campus; CSU Online students are not eligible. NALA cannot be combined with WUE, Yellow Ribbon, GI Promise, or the listed GI tuition benefits, and CSU keeps the most beneficial award if more than one applies.
